Song Reference

The board number and name originate from the song 853-5937 by Squeeze, a London-based band formed during the 1970's. Below are the lyrics to the song.

853-5937
Angela can't make it to the 'phone,
If you care to leave your name and number
She'll give you a ring when she is home.
Everytime I called her I got the message
I listened to the voice coming down the line,
I couldn't speak to a tape recording
I re-dialled it a number of times.

853-5937
Angela can't make it to the 'phone,
If you care to leave your name and number
Please speak clearly after the tone,
She'll give you a ring when she get's home.

I rang her this morning so very early
The same old message coming down the 'phone,
I should go and see if her house is empty
Maybe she's poorly perhaps she's not home.

She's in Mill Hill I'm in Bermondsey
It's the end of the earth on the northern line.
It makes it so hard for me to see,
The one that I love but can never find.

I called up a close friend who lives right by her
I got the message he was out too,
I was suspicious are they together
I've got to find out that that isn't true

History

The following is a slightly altered version of the history made by the user SephirothZERO, co-founder of the Angela board.

The TOSA

In April 2003, a group of users was formed on the Tetris board under the leadership of Commando Mario. They called themselves the Toaster Oven Search Assosiation (TOSA), and they began looking for hints and searching board numbers to no avail.

They recruited users "furb" and "MudTurkey13," who seemed more than likely to know of the existence of Toaster Oven, but the TOSA put their faith in them to no avail, for they did not give hints.

During this time, Eggie (the "founding father" of Angela) approached the group. TOSA had decided to undertake a board-by-board search, assigning blocks of numbers for each member to search. Eggie was the most successful, seemingly being able to search thousands of boards in very short period of time. He later revealed to SephirothZERO that he was running a robot which enabled him to search for boards by title. This was, of course, illegal, so Eggie and Sephiroth kept the secret to themselves (It did not become public until Eggie closed his account).

Despite having no success, the TOSA was becoming very popular. Commando Mario decided to break the group off from GameFAQs, and it became an invite-only MSN group. This worked quite well, as it limited the members and the chances of someone leaking the board number if/when the TOSA found a new secret board.

However, on April Fools 2004, Toaster Oven came into existence and was well-known. The TOSA group, beyond its most faithful members, almost disappeared overnight. The group was no longer united, and it eventually passed away into memory.

The Golden Era

In mid-August, SephirothZERO noticed a topic from Eggie asking for Sephiroth to contact him. Sephiroth was surprised, but he took it seriously and contacted Eggie. Eggie revealed that he had carried on with his banned program and found a secret board named Angela. After some persuasion, Eggie showed Sephiroth the board, although he had already closed the first topic on it.

During this so-called "Golden Era," a select number of people knew about the board. Through the TOSA and email, seven original TOSA members gathered at Angela. For a couple of weeks, Eggie and the TOSA happily had the board all to themselves. Outside of Angela, the members had fun alluding and hinting at the board, but they didn't give it away. On Eggie's website listing the secret boards, users could only see Angela by highlighting a certain black space.

The last topic remaining from "the Golden era" was SephirothZERO's "The Origins of this board are..." topic, in which the lyrics to the song are posted, but that has since purged.

Angela Revealed

At the end of The Golden Era, a moderator discovered Angela and disliked the rules and regulations that Eggie was creating. On September 2, 2004, the board was leaked on Current Events, and the invasion began from there. Huge numbers of people flocked into Angela.

Eggie was desperately angry, feeling betrayed because he thought that only a TOSA member could have leaked the board out. He posted a long rant on Current Events that got him put in Purgatory. With Angela revealed, Eggie leaked many of the other secret boards, including the unnamed boards at Zamzara. Following this, SephirothZERO routed out the remaining secret boards, such as the GameFaqs-GameSpot Sharing Test Board. If the TOSA couldn't have their own secret board, then nobody else could have theirs. Like Angela, some of these boards were also invaded, and SephirothZERO served time in Purgatory for the leak.

After coming out of Purgatory, Eggie closed his topics and his account, announcing that he despised the users and was never coming back. The TOSA members never spoke to him again. Only clever work by a faithful TOSA member revealed the true reason for the leak, but Eggie remains oblivious.

After the invasion subsided, CJayC created a topic on Angela stating that it was created on the same day as Jenny. He was surprised that nobody found it earlier, saying that nobody guessed he would use two phone number songs from the 90's.

Q&A about Angela

This Q&A is compiled out of questions made after the History of Angela. The questions are answered by SephirothZERO and TenkoStar17; both users are part of the original Angela group.

Who where the original members?
Original members:
Eggie, SephirothZER0, agbasp, Neither, ActJef1077, bioweapon7, and irk.
TenkoStar17 and ZZtw0, friends of the members, were invited a week later, which was also about a week before it was leaked.
Commando Mario, the old leader of TOSA, didn't see the invitation until it was too late. By the time he got here, the leak had just begun. It should be noted that it was NOT Commando Mario who leaked it.

How is it everyone found the other 4 boards, but not this one?
Just one of those things. Maybe CJayC overestimated us.

Why didn't CJayC post this board along with the others and stuff after April Fools in that one topic listing all the things he had done?
Because it wasnt made along with the other original secret boards, on April first but on a later date. He probable felt he should wait for someone to find it.

Did CJayC make a topic when this was found? On what board? What did it say?
He made a topic on the Angela board.
Here's the that topic CJayC made:
[1] [2] [3] [4]

Oh, and also, does anyone know when this board was made?
Someone said it was made along with Jenny? True? When was that?
Angela was made around the same time as Jenny. Jenny was discovered in May of 2003. An exact date on when both of them where created is unknown.
