Current Events

From WikiFAQs

(Redirected from CE)
Jump to: navigation, search

Current Events, commonly abbreviated as just (CE) is a popular social board on GameFAQs, usually compared in popularity to RI and LUE. Users who post on Current Events are known as CEmen.

In early 2005, CJayC asked Current Events if they wanted to become privatized, like LUE. Surprisingly, this was widely rejected and ultimately turned down by the board. It can be speculated that this was because many CEmen get frequent moderations and can't maintain a single account for very long, this would cause CE to become empty very soon if it was privatized.

RICE > LUE

August 2, 2006, there was an announcement that there would be a 500 topic the next day which would try to beat the record for fastest to 500, set by LUE (1 minute, 57 seconds). Throughout the night and into the next day word of this topic spread and CE even asked their archenemies, RI for help. Though many refused, some decided to help and the topic was to be called "RICE>LUE" (RI + CE). AIM chat rooms even opened up, and many were full. Some hours before the event (10:00 PM EST, 7:00 PST) more people got word of massive bannings on LUE (over 30) and some decided to not participate. Indeed, many were now saying this would never work and it was known that the mods were watching. Perhaps a minute before the time, the board was shut down for maintenance, however it just so happened that there were apparently 2 topics, one of them got 73 posts in 33 seconds, however it was deleted and many were warned. Once it got back up, people asked how the 500 topic went and it was deemed a failure, yet notorious for causing the board to shut down.

CEnco De Mayo

Main Article: CEnco de Mayo

On May 5th, 2007, CEnco de Mayo, one of the greatest events on Current Events, occurred. The event spawned several 500 topics, including one made by CJayC and one which established the former record time of 1 minute 23 seconds.

ArCEn

On February 7, 2008, a user named Jediknight12345 posted on Current Events, asking if he should burn down his local church, in Quincy, Illinois. Most of the members of Current Events saw this as a joke, and urged him to do it. Jediknight did burn down the church, and was arrested. This gave CE some minor media attention when a reporter from a local news station came to do a report on the church burning and interrogated a few CEmen. Opinions on this event are mixed, some CEmen enjoy the attention and think it makes CE badass, other more "experienced" CEmen are very mad at the thought of a bunch of news reporters spying on them and think this makes them similar to LUE or 4chan. Jediknight12345 was arrested and is currently facing felony charges. During this event many moderators were scouring the board and deleting or locking all topics pertaining to this event. This incident in CE's history has been dubbed ArCEn by most CEmen.

DeCEmation

On December 7, 2008, the former KoSed user TRC using methods that are unknown, hacked and suicided approximately 125 accounts. The suicides started on CE board, and began very early in the morning, with the suicides of 9 accounts, including FartRipper and judasmaiden15. They picked up again around mid-day on the Poll of the Day board. The user SpeeDDemon had over 30 of his accounts hacked and suicided. After all of SpeeDs accounts were gone, TRC suicided another 90 or so hacked accounts on CE, Poll of the Day, and Hellhole. The event was soon called a variety of names, most of popular of which was "DeCEmation".

SilenCE
