Chain Posting is the act of quoting the message of another user without adding anything to the discussion, which is then quoted by another user until the quoted messages become nothing more than a list of usernames and post times with the original message. Because of their lengthy nature and general lack of purpose, chain posting is considered to be a fad.

On forums with a Quote function, the result is a series of quote boxes that distort the actual message appearance, sometimes called "The Pyramid of Pain". On GameFAQs, users copy/paste the chain, resulting in a long list. Chain posting is similar to chain letters on the Internet, where people add their name to an ever-growing list before sending it out to everyone. While lacking in any productive purpose, chain posting is generally done when users agree with what a previous user has said, and quotes the original message rather than adding anything to it.
