GameSpot, often referred to as GS is another gaming site which merged boards with GameFAQs in late 2004/early 2005. The merge required all users to upgrade their account to a universal account, which they could use to access either the GameFAQs or GameSpot boards. In addition, several GameFAQs features were removed, Meta-Mod and MMA being the biggest ones. Also, more restrictions were put on user names because the GameSpot system doesn't accept some characters in user names.

Eventually, the Space Accounts trick was found. This allowed GameFAQs users to create usernames with spaces. It was not an exploit and although several users knew how to do it, it was long and tedious work. RockMFR 5 eventually dug through the GameFAQs source code and created a web application that allowed any user to change a newly activated account's GameFAQs ID without changing the universal account name.

In 2012, it was announced that GameFAQs and GameSpot were to demerge. On May 7, 2012, the ability for GameSpot users to post on shared boards was removed.
