LUEdicrous Speed

LUEdicrous Speed occured on December 24, 2004. It was an event in which LUEsers posted over 10,000 messages in five hours.

History

LUEdicrous Speed started on December 24, 2004, at around about 1:16 AM EST. Luster Soldier made a topic on LUE titled "LUE, lets reach 60000 messages before the purge happens." In the message, Luster wrote that LUE currently had 57,000 messages and that they should try to hit 60,000 messages before the purge happened (at around 6:06 AM that day).

However, the last fact was not mentioned, and LUEsers thought that the purge was to happen in 45 minutes. LUE has often been well-known for meeting posting deadlines (see LUEmit Break), and this event was no exception. Determined to reach 60,000 posts, they posted like crazy. At its peak, LUEsers were posting an average of 8 messages per second. One particular method they used was creating new topics for the sole purpose of getting flooded. In many topics, LUEsers would write, "Don't talk, just post." The saying can be traced to Neomon, whose first topic said exactly that.

Of course, the sudden flood of messages was noticed, and RCR Returns reported the flood on MBH. However, Luster Soldier was not punished for instigating a flood. He also avoided posting in that topic. Luster, a regular at Bushido and a master of post inflation (being a Bushido means bumping up topics on a daily basis), participated by bumping up old topics and posting his own share of messages.

LUEdicrous Speed was a massive success. It gained 3,000 messages in just 40 minutes, bringing the message count to 60,000.

When it was revealed that the purge wasn't going to happen for a little longer, some LUEsers were determined to push LUE's message count to 70,000. The flooding continued until about 3:45 AM, when the flood slowed down and LUE went back to "normal" speed. They had not even reached 65,000 posts at this point. It finally reached 67,678 messages before the purge knocked the board down to 53,922 messages. Like with all other major events, LUEsers dubbed this event "LUEdicrous Speed."

Luster Soldier once again attempted to initate another flood. That same day, at 11:28 PM EST, he posted another topic, titled "LUE, lets reach 70000 messages before the purge happens." Like with the first topic, Luster was not moderated for inciting a flood. Whether or not LUE reached 70,000 posts is unknown because Luster (who was monitoring the message post count) went to sleep just an hour later, at around 12:15 AM EST.
