LUEmit Break
From WikiFAQs
The LUEmit Break is an incident that happened May 10, 2004 on the Life, the Universe, and Everything. LunchLady9 created a topic saying he would give $10 to every 20th poster. He said that he had won $330 on boxing and didn't need the money.
A recent update to the site had set the automatic close time after a topic reached 500 posts to 20 minutes, not instantaneously as it should be. Thus, when the topic reached 500 posts, the automatic lock failed, and it continued to grow. Once LUE realized that the topic was not closing, they began to post as much as they could in the topic before it could be closed. Its growth rate was compounded by the recent opening of LUElinks on May 8th, as regular LUE was enjoying a minor surge in posting, and LUElinks' communication strength was deployed.
By the time a moderator found and closed the topic, it had reached a monstrous 4145 posts. At the time, much was made of the fact that Alt + 4145 = 1, particularly notable after the events of SteriLUEzation only six months before, and the fact that lunarhawk99's ID, 888113, also equalled one with Alt.
It is unknown if LunchLady9 made good on his promise to give every 20th poster $10 (which would have been 182 more posters). It is assumed that he did give it to the first 25 20th posters.
