Message Board Announcements is where GameFAQs' administrators announce changes to the site in general and the forums specifically. This used to be a board where only admins could make topics, but anybody could post once a topic was up; the original purpose of this was to let people give feedback on changes or ask questions about them. Unfortunately, in practice the topics tended to fill up with clutter only and any questions that were asked got lost in them, and re-asked on MBH anyway. Recognizing this, the administrators turned MBA into a read-only forum for regular users, permanently shuttling questions and feedback to MBH instead.
In addition to only letting admins make topics, MBA is not included in the daily purge, although some topics have been purged.
A few years ago, there were two "announcement" pages. Message Board Announcements dealt with the message boards while another one title "GameFAQs News & Updates" detailed site-related matters. Obviously, this became redundant as the site-related matters were on the front page and merely copied to the board. So it was cut and MBA remained.
Occasionally, new users would have two MBA links in their boards list. This problem was fixed on November 17th, 2005.
