No Karma Loss

NKL, or No Karma Loss, is the lowest grade of moderation. Messages or topics are deleted, but the user incurs no Karma penalty or any posting restrictions. NKLs are considered to be minor administrative moderations.

Most first-time violations are given an NKL, although serious offenses are strictly punished without issuing NKLs. If a user accumulates several NKLs in their Moderation History, further minor infractions incur more serious penalties.

Originally, NKLs could be disputed as with other punishments (except Suspension). However, they could not be appealed. The ability to dispute NKLs was universally removed by CJayC in August 2005 based on the experience of Moderators. Because the vast majority of NKL disputes were pointless, the dispute ability was revoked due to it lack of productive usage. The removal of NKL dispute abilities caused some controversy in the community, as users felt that they were no longer able to point out errors in Moderator actions, with some going as far as to claim that Moderators were now free to delete messages with impunity. With the appointment of the 7th batch of Moderators occurring at the same time, there were some consistency issues that could not be clarified due to the inability to dispute NKLs, which caused some grief in the userbase.

In November 2005, CJayC restored the ability to dispute NKLs in conjunction with a peer-assessed dispute system. Users are free to dispute NKLs, although they are still subject to having their dispute privileges removed if the dispute form is misused. Additionally, NKLs disappear from the user's Moderation History earlier if the user accepts the moderation rather than disputing it.

Initially, users did not receive a notification of an NKL moderation due to their lack of importance. In August 2005, however, CJayC gave NKLs the same notification message as Notification violations.

If an NKL is disputed and subsequently upheld, or if the user does nothing, the NKL will purge after 15 days. If the user accepts it without disputing, however, it purges after 7 days.
