The slang of GameFAQs is constantly changing, with new adaptations of current slang/fad terms being constantly created. Below is a partial listing of slang and acronyms commonly used on GameFAQs.
General Internet Slang
- LOL
- Laugh Out Loud
- WTF
- What The F-word
- XD
- Viewed sideways, this is an emoticon for a grinning face; the X represents the eyes, and the D represents the mouth.
- common variations: ecks dee, other phonetic variations.
- ROFL(WTIME)
- Rolling On the Floor Laughing (With Tears In My Eyes)
- common variations: roffle, ROTFL
- LMAO
- Laughing My Ass Off. Often included with ROFL as ROFLMAO.

- IM(H)O
- In My (Humble) Opinion
- IIRC
- If I Recall/Remember Correctly

- In Real Life
- FTW
- For the Win/F-Word the what, usually the first.
- sic
- "as such" - Indicates that a previous misspelling or grammatical error was intentionally left "as is," quoted directly from another source.
- O RLY
- A meme involving an owl. Stands for "Oh really?"
- Newbie
- A new, inexperienced user.
- n00b
- An inexperienced user who refuses to acknowledge his or her inexperience and constantly butts heads with board veterans, despite knowing that he or she is wrong.
GameFAQs-Specific Slang
- 313
- The United Kingdom social board which has the board number 313.
- 3KL
- A three-karma-loss moderation, more known as a notification.
- 4AW
- Refers to the fad "four always wins", which was generally takes the form of clicking on the number 4 in a given topic title. This usually results in a a favorable outcome within the topic.
- 4chan memes
- Many memes from the imageboard 4chan are borrowed by GameFAQs posters.
- 500 Topic
- A topic created for the sole purpose of reaching 500 posts (the threshold at which the board automatically locks a topic). Such topics are frowned upon by moderators and often deleted as being disruptive.
- Alt
- A term referring to a user's alternate account.
- AMK
- Active Messages/Moderated Messages/Karma - Normally seen in topics for posting such information, as seen on social boards.
- ANZ
- Australia/New Zealand regional board
- ANZer
- a user of the ANZ board.
- Banninate
- Term frequently posted when a user posts a message which contains a major ToS violation that normally leads to being banned from the website. The phrase is a play on of the word "burninate" which originated from Homestar Runner with the character "Trogdor the Burninator."
- BALEETED or BAL33T3D
- A joke term to signify a post that will surely be moderated (another Homestar Runner reference).
- Board 8er
- A user who regularly posts at the Summer Contest Board (Board 8).

- Bot
- Derogatory term used to describe somebody who is biased towards Microsoft. The name is derived from box in Xbox.
- CE
- Current Events social board
- CEman
- A term to describe a person who goes to CE (Current Events board) regularly.

- Drone
- A Derogatory term used to describe somebody who is biased towards Nintendo. The name derives from the term Nintendrone.
- Evil Republicans
- A popular club on the War on Terrorism board, consisting of politically conservative users. Attempts to create competing liberal and libertarian clubs have ended in failure.
- Fapping
- Male masturbation.
- GANNON-BANNED
- Use of the spelling "Gannon" to refer to Ganondorf's transformed form in Legend of Zelda.
- GFNW
- Gordon Freeman Never Wins - A running gag on the Summer Contest Board (Board 8), referring to the character Gordon Freeman and his seemingly inevitable first-round elimination from each Contest.
- Hacker
- A member of the Hacked board (Board 820).
- Hijack
- Changing the path of a discussion within a topic to something different than the topic creator intended.
- IBD
- In Before Deletion
- IB(T)L
- In Before (Topic) Locked (Note: IBL will be modded as a fad, and IBTL is currently a banned word due to overuse on GameSpot)
- ITT
- Can have one of two meanings:
- Ignore This Topic - A term originating on the War on Terrorism board, as a response to topics perceived by users as trolling. Ironically, as any post in a topic moves it to the top of the board, posting "ITT" increases the likelihood of people reading it rather than ignoring it.
- In This Thread - The topic creator wants other users to do or post something. It is mainly used as a way of posting a question as a statement, such as "ITT we post our favorite color."
- KOS
- Kill on Sight
- LUE
- Life, the Universe and Everything
- LUEicide/LUEcide
- Term used for account suicide by a LUEser. Both LUEicide and LUEcide were autoflagged for a while in an attempt to keep people from account suiciding, with the message "Bad idea."
- LUEser
- A member of LUE
- LUErker
- A member of LUE who doesn't post actively
- LUEable
- A term used to describe accounts that signed up for LUE access after the excLUEsion.
- LT
- Means the topic consists of a link (and possibly the poster's signature)(usually goes in topic title).
- MBH
- Message Board Help
- MBHer
- A frequent user of Message Board Help.
- Meow
- Vagina
- MIASU
- Mark It And Shut Up
- Mod Baiting
- Purposely attracting a moderator's attention, either by posting an autoflagged word (which, despite popular belief, is not automatically marked) or posting a topic implying that one is underage (i.e. Topic: I am 12 / Message: hundred years old).
- NKL
- No Karma Loss (moderation)
- NT
- No Text - means the whole question/comment is made in the topic title (usually put in topic title)
- O9K
- IT'S OVER 9000 - A special board.
- PotD
- Poll of the Day - Usually used in reference to the board.
- PotDer
- A member of PotD.
- Purgatory
- Longterm (but not permanent) revocation of a user's posting privileges.

- Purge
- The nightly process that rids the message board of old messages and updates user information.
- Purged
- 1. Purged (pronounced purjd, soft G): having been hit by the purge (see Purge, above)
- 2. Purged (pronounced purgd, hard G): when a user is placed into Purgatory (see Purgatory, above)
- The Queue
- This traditionally refers to marked message queue, where moderators decide what to do with a post. The exact nature of it is unknown, though several older pictures of it exist.

- Random Insanity
- RIer
- a member of Random Insanity.
- RItard
- Offensive version of RIer, generally used as an insult.
- RTS/RTFS
- Read the (****ing) Sticky - Often used on Message Board Help and refers to SBAllen's sticky topic there.
- Seconds Game
- A roulette-style game based on GameFAQs' internal clock. Each post on the message board includes a listing of the exact time it's posted. The results of a seconds game are, as the name indicates, based on the seconds in that time listing for each post within the topic. Examples of seconds games include "What character are you?", "Which poster will you marry?", etc.
- Stealth Porn
- The act of posting a ToS friendly picture with a name such as "www.yahoo.com/luepics/cute_girl_1". By changing the number after the picture, a user can link to porn for people to see and not be moderated for it.
- Tagging
- The act of posting "tag" as a reply to a topic. This is done so the user can keep track of the topic through his or her AMP list. Now considerably less common due to the topic tracking feature implemented on 12/6/06.

- Toaster Oven - A special board.
- TOaster
- A member of the board Toaster Oven.
- Tool
- A derogatory term used to describe someone who is biased towards Sony. The name derives from the two in Playstation 2.
- Usermap Axe(d)
- A severe administrative response to a problematic user wherein an account is banned, as are any account(s) of any user(s) whose IP has logged into the former account.
- USL
- Universe, Space, and Life - A dead board which became used as a social board.
- USLess
- Active member of the board USL
- UUA
- Underage User Alert - Used in response to somebody who either admits to being under the age of 13 (and thus prohibited from having an account by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), or (in jest) to somebody who posts something considered so inane that only an underage user could have posted it.
- Vet
- Term for a long-time and/or respected user of a board. Can also be used to refer to a regular of the Veterans board.
- Wang
- Penis
- ZSB
- Zelda Games special social board
- WoTer
- A frequent visitor to the War on Terrorism board. The most common pronunciation is identical to "water."
- Wall of Text
- A really long post that no one wants to read all the way through.
