A Specialist Moderator is a now defunct level of moderator that had access to the full general queue, and had the ability to handle messages marked by themselves. Although Specialist Moderators are higher on the user level scale than the Level 51 General Moderator, both Specialist and General Moderators had the same abilities. Specialist Moderators were introduced after the 6th batch of moderators, and the level was attained by either:
- Being a New Moderator which were at that time assigned board categories specifically to handle, and getting promoted retaining the specialty.
- Being a moderator before the 6th batch and electing to specialize in a certain category.
Not all pre-6th batch Moderators chose to specialize. Those who didn't were designated as General Moderators. During the 6th batch period, the only difference between the two types was that Specialist Moderators had direct access to their specialist queue, although both types could access any specialist queue at any time, so this did not matter.
On November 29th, 2005 the position was removed due to aforementioned reasons of being essentially no different from General Moderators. Level 52 is now reserved for moderators who have been on the GameFAQs staff for over four years. The new title is "Veteran Moderator".
