Topic Post Limit

A topic reaches the Topic Post Limit at 500 posts. When a topic reaches that number of messages, it is closed automatically.

Even though the topic closes at 500 posts there are still some cases where a topic gets more then 500 posts. These include a same-time post with the 500th poster, a moderator posting in it after closure, or a case where the lock fails like the LUEmit Break.

Topics may also exceed 500 posts without locking if the only posters after at the 500th post and further are GameSpot users. Topics in this case will lock once a GameFAQs user has posted.

There is often much competition to get the 500th post when a topic is near to having 500 posts. The term "500 Topic" signifies a topic with no purpose but to get 500 posts. This is frowned upon and is moddable for Disruptive Posting.

Notable Attempts at Setting a New Record

Every so often, a GameFAQs user or board decides to try to get a topic to 500 posts in record time, sometimes by inviting others to help with the attempt. Most of the time, at least one user tries to disrupt the attempt. The current record of 34 seconds is held by The Famous Five. Moderators have been known to close record-time attempts once they have already failed. This is an incomplete list of the more notable attempts over the years.
