Warning

A warning is a moderation for major or repeated violations. It is less severe than a suspension but more severe than a notification. When a user is warned, (s)he immediately loses 10 karma and his/her account status is set to Warned until the end of the second day following the warning. While a user is Warned, his/her account gains no karma no karma, (s)he cannot create and topics, and the number of posts that (s)he can make is restricted. Furthermore, the warning stays on record for 30 days, and any violations of the same kind before the time period expires will virtually guarantee a suspension.

Warnings are usually the result of repeated violations of the same kind within a short time frame, but are also given right off the bat for severe violations such as sexual preference insults, racism, and providing of warez.

The disclaimers seen before posting on certain boards are also occasionally called "warnings." Examples are Off-topic warnings on General Boards, the Site Suggestions warning, and the warnings for Autoflagged and Banned Words.
